Tet in Vietnam

Tet is the most important holiday in Vietnam. It is the Vietnamese New Year and usually happens in January or February. Before Tet, people clean their houses and buy new clothes. They also buy flowers like peach blossoms and kumquat trees to decorate their homes. On the first day of Tet, families gather to celebrate together. People cook special foods like "banh chung" (square cake) and eat fruit. Children often receive lucky money in red envelopes from their parents and relatives. Tet is a time for family and friends to come together, remember ancestors, and wish for good health and happiness in the new year. Many people visit temples or pagodas to pray for luck.
