Former mayor of Taipei, Ko Wen-je, released on condition that he pays NT$70 million

On September 5, 2025, Mr. Ko Wen-je could leave court. He paid 70 million NT dollars. The judge said this money might change later.

Mr. Ko has a problem. It is about land for a big building. The building is called Core Pacific City. In 2021, Mr. Ko was the mayor of Taipei. He said 'yes' to building a much bigger building on that land. This building is Core Pacific Plaza. It is not finished yet. This helped a company called Core Pacific Group.

Many people in Taiwan learned about this problem in late 2023. At that time, Mr. Ko wanted to be president. Mr. Ko says he did nothing wrong. He thinks this problem is because of politics.

On September 11, 2025, Mr. Ko's lawyer said sorry. Mr. Ko was in a car with some witnesses for the case. Witnesses are people who saw things. Mr. Ko said he did not talk to these witnesses first.
